The vineyards of Poderi Tesio have been carefully selected to best express the unique characteristics of the terroir in the glass. Producing non-trivial wines is difficult, especially when all you have behind you is a passion for a product, wine, that evokes ancestral calls and a millenary tradition that contrasts with stories of centuries-old family productions. Well, Tesio writes on a blank sheet, without inescapable constraints. This gave us the freedom to first identify the beloved wines and then seek the most suitable vineyards to work little in the cellar and much in the vineyard. Walking through the vineyards taught us that the imprint is born among the rows of vines, and this is the philosophy we intend to pursue. Whether it's the full-bodied Barbera or the aromatic Timorasso, we work so that each wine tells the story of the land it comes from.
Bazzana
La Gherlobbia
The vineyard in Bazzana is at the heart of the “Gherlobbia” cru, from which the farmhouse takes its name. The vineyard was in a partial degraded state but on a spectacular site: south-southeast exposure, healthy vines especially in the oldest part of the vineyard dating back to 1940; light marl soil. A perfect vineyard for the production of great red wines.
The vineyard has been divided to produce red wines, ranging from Barbera in steel to Nizza Riserva which is produced only in certain vintages and is the subject of a complex recovery project with the goal of having 5 hectares of Barbera in a single plot.
In the lower part of the valley, 0.5 hectares of Moscato will be planted.
Derthona
Monleale
As with our Barbera, to produce Timorasso we went in search of the most suitable soils and chose the Monleale area. A marl-limestone area, with light soils rich in white gravel, at 310 meters above sea level, ventilated, and 60 km in straight line from the Ligurian coast.
This site is capable of producing persistent white wines with an almost oily consistency.
Our planting was done with manure fertilization and minimally invasive soil preparation to avoid completely removing the natural layer.
